ALERTOL - Active Constituent/ Standardized Brahmi Extract

Active Constituents
The active constituents of the Brahmi extract were identified and named as Bacoside A and Bacoside B. The Bacosides were also found to enhance the mental retention capacity and memory in the test specimens (rats) and this effect was seen in both positive & negative reinforcement tests.

Standardised Brahmi Extract
A standardised extract of the Brahmi plant containing specific amounts of Bacosides A and B was prepared and tested in two learning schedules using rats: brightness discrimination reaction response tests and active conditioned avoidance response tests. In both schedules the test group treated with the standardised Brahmi extract performed significantly better than the control group.

ALERTOL is a standardised preparation of the Brahmi plant extract which contains specific amounts of the two key ingredients, Bacosides A and B.

The preparation fulfils the definition of Herbal Drugs in the Guidelines of Herbal Medicines issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 1991. The document states that a guiding principle should be that if the product has been used traditionally without demonstrable harm, no specific regulatory action should be undertaken unless new evidence demands a revised risk/benefit assessment. It further adds that “where traditional use has not been established, appropriate clinical evidence should be required. ALERTOL fulfils all these conditions.
